The Bibliothèque d’étude et de conservation in the city of Besançon, France has within its collections an important compilation of documents, gathered by different members of the Chifflet family that are widely known in Besançon precisely for their contributions to consolidate the history and the study of the origin of the city.

For years, the Bibliothèque d’étude et de conservation has developed a website known as Mémoire Vive where they have been able to share the digitalization of several books, documents, postcards and even museum objects for everybody to have access to them. On this collection of documents we can find important ones that are in Spanish and by reading and analyzing them, we can notice that they belong to an important genre of narrations that was extremely important and widely known in Europe throughout the 16th and 17th Century, above everything in Spain, where they are named relaciones de sucesos. These documents have been studied throughout the years by different institutions, although not effort is little since the amount of relaciones is not known and we continue to find these documents even nowadays.

With this webpage, I intend to create a site of reference for these relaciones specifically, the ones that are available in Besançon, France, offering the viewer the digitized image that can be found in Mémoire Vive with a comparison image that has the advantage of offering a modernization of the texts and transcriptions with an updated version of the grammar and orthography since some of these documents are manuscripts and are hard to read and understand. In this website there will also be a glossary available which will donate a further insight and understanding to the vocabulary that can be found throughout the texts. Furthermore, some of the documents will have an available translation in English, French or both languages to help the development of the main goal of this project: That this information reaches as many people as possible.
